US, Los Angeles: Simi Valley Makeshift Memorial For Dr Eric Cordes And Vicki Cordes At Residence With Police Update
Los Angeles, United States - December 03, 2025 12/02/2025 07:00 pm GMT-0800 SIMI VALLEY, Calif. – A makeshift memorial has been set up for Dr. Eric Cordes and Vicki Cordes at their home, where they were fatally shot this past Sunday in the 500 block of Hawks Bill Place in the Wood Ranch neighborhood in Simi Valley. A gentle breeze in the area lightly tossed around a red balloon by a tree on the front lawn of the home. A candle, a card, and bouquets were observed lying on the driveway. According to authorities, this was a targeted attack in the normally quiet, residential neighborhood. A vehicle that was found on fire with a burned body found nearby at a park in the city of Chino late Sunday afternoon was linked to the scene of the double homicide in Simi Valley around noon. The Simi Valley Police Department released an update regarding the investigation on Tuesday afternoon. The department confirmed the identities of the victims along with their ages — Eric Cordes, 63 years old, and Vicki Cordes, 66 years old — both found inside their residence's open garage suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. They were both immediately provided emergency medical care from first responders, then transported to a local trauma center, where they were later pronounced deceased. According to the update, detectives learned through witness statements that the suspect approached the open garage and opened fire before fleeing in a black sedan with out-of-state plates. The suspect was described by witnesses as a White male, approximately 30 years old, wearing dark colored clothing and a hat. On Tuesday, the San Bernardino County Medical Examiner confirmed the deceased individual found near the burning car was Keith Cordes, who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to the police update, additional forensic testing is pending; however, detectives believe the firearm recovered from Keith's suicide is the same weapon used in the fatal shooting of Eric and Vicki Cordes. Also confirmed by the Simi Valley PD is that the vehicle was registered to Keith Cordes, a 37-year-old Kentucky resident and the son of the victim, Eric Cordes, and the stepson of Vicki Cordes. The motive for the shooting has not yet been determined in the ongoing investigation.
