Trump Invokes Executive Privilege in Jan. 6 Lawsuit. Former President Donald Trump is asserting executive privilege to block access to records in a long-running lawsuit accusing him of inciting the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol. The Justice Department revealed the move during a hearing this week - According to Politico. The suit was filed by police officers who say Trump’s fiery speech — and his call for supporters to march on the Capitol — helped spark violence that injured 140 officers and disrupted the transfer of power to Joe Biden. The Biden administration had previously waived privilege for many Jan. 6 investigations, but a White House spokesperson now confirms that Trump is trying to keep some documents subpoenaed from the National Archives out of the plaintiffs’ hands,… calling the requests overly broad. It’s still unclear which specific records Trump wants withheld. A Justice Department attorney says details will be provided to the court next week. For now, the cases continue, as the judge prepares to hear arguments on whether Trump’s actions that day were official presidential duties — or personal conduct that could leave him legally exposed.
