Kīlauea summit eruption and lava fountaining in Hawai, USA
On December 6, 2025, in Hawaii, USA, @USGSVolcanoes shared a video of the powerful Kīlauea summit eruption at Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park. In the video, during lava fountaining episode 38 at Halema‘uma‘u crater, intense lava fountains burst from the north and south vents, with the south vent shooting more than 1,000 feet into the air as a massive plume rises over 20,000 feet above sea level. The scene also shows tephra fall, heavy volcanic gas emissions, and the destruction of the V3 camera site located less than a mile from the vents—underscoring the extreme hazards within the closed area surrounding the crater.
