Thailand: Residents affected by Thai-Cambodian conflict stream into temporary shelters

Since Cambodia-Thailand border conflict reignited on Sunday, affected residents in Thailand have continued to stream into temporary shelters set up in the border provinces of Buriram and Sisaket. A spokesperson for Thailand's Second Army Area Command said later Monday that 325 temporary shelters across four border provinces have been opened, with 51,147 civilians evacuated to the sites. Some of the shelters are equipped with small medical stations staffed with healthcare workers to treat the residents who have developed health problems during evacuation. Cambodian Defense Ministry's Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata said on Tuesday that seven Cambodian civilians were killed and 20 others wounded in the border conflict Cambodian Minister of Information Neth Pheaktra said at least 16,568 Cambodian families with 54,550 people have fled their homes near the border for safe shelters.
