BANTEAY MEANCHEY, CAMBODIA — DEC. 17, 2025: Two Cambodian soldiers wounded in clashes with Thai forces near the border continued their medical treatment at a hospital in Banteay Meanchey Province, Cambodia, on Wednesday, Dec. 17.

Thirty-three-year-old Ros Vatanak was injured after being hit by artillery shrapnel, while 36-year-old Nguon Sinet lost his right hand after being shot by a machine-gun bullet during the fighting.

The two soldiers were transferred to a hospital in Banteay Meanchey Province amid continuing Cambodian-Thai border tensions.

Fighting between Thai and Cambodian forces has shown no signs of de-escalation since hostilities resumed earlier this month.

Renewed border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia entered their 11th day on Wednesday, with at least 52 people killed on both sides since the conflict reignited on Dec. 7.

The two countries signed a peace agreement in October in Kuala Lumpur in the presence of Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, but it was later suspended after Thai soldiers were seriously injured in a landmine explosion in a border province.

Thai authorities also said around 18 Cambodian soldiers remain in Thai custody following incidents over the past five months.

Thailand and Cambodia have a long-running border dispute that has repeatedly erupted into violence, including clashes in July in which at least 48 people were killed.
