China: Unmanned cement production line in China lays foundation for reducing labor costs
Storyline Unmanned cement production line in China lays foundation for reducing labor costs [Voice_over] China has launched the world's first fully unmanned cement production line, a landmark achievement that's poised to reshape the industry. As one of China's top seven building material breakthroughs this year, the facility has phased out manual oversight jobs, typically conducted in harsh, hot environments. Like core preheating and calcination, processes that used to require six to 10 workers but that now is totally automated. The secret is a 3D-twin of the entire a physical plant; a virtual replica that let's engineers monitor operations remotely with the click of a mouse, rather than protective gear. And a staggering 35,000 data points that monitor production quality, environmental impact, and safety. [Sound_bite] Zhou Qiang, head of operation department, Tongchuan Branch, BBMG Jidong Cement Group Co., Ltd.: "The digitalization rate of the production process control on this line exceeds 95 percent. With data empowering our production, our cement energy consumption has decreased by 24.8 percent, well below the national first-level energy consumption standards, and we have achieved a 100-percent qualification rate for products leaving the factory." [Voice_over] China has released plans to further boost its building materials industry aiming to earn more than $42 billion U.S. dollars in revenues for the green building materials sector by 2026.
