UNCAPTIONED: Farage Will Not Face Police Inquiry Into Spending
Farage Will Not Face Police Inquiry Into Spending. Police have ruled out investigating Nigel Farage over claims his election campaign broke spending rules at last year’s general election. Essex Police said they are legally unable to act because more than a year has passed since the alleged offence. The claims centred on whether Reform UK exceeded the £20,660 spending limit during Farage’s successful Clacton campaign in 2024. The allegations were made by a former campaign team member, who said some costs – including leaflets, banners, utility bills and refurbishment work at a local office bar – were not properly declared. However, police confirmed that under election law, any prosecution must begin within 12 months of the alleged breach, meaning no investigation can now take place. While the police case is closed, Farage could still face scrutiny from the Electoral Commission, which has separate powers to investigate campaign finance rules.
