Puerto de Mazarrón, Spain - December 28, 2025 On December 28, 2025, multiple waterspouts formed off the coast of Puerto de Mazarrón amid red and orange weather alerts for extreme storms across Murcia and southern Spain. At least two of the waterspouts made landfall on the port and promenade between 5 and 6 PM. They hurled debris including terrace furniture, roof sheets, boat parts, sails, chairs, and tables high into the air, with some items landing over a kilometer away. The powerful winds flipped cars in the fishing port, destroyed restaurant and bar terraces along the waterfront, damaged yachts and boats in the marina, and scattered urban furniture. Eyewitnesses described the scenes as "absolute chaos" with objects flying "like paper" and people fleeing terraces suddenly. No injuries were reported from the waterspouts themselves, though material damage to businesses and port infrastructure was significant. The phenomena dissipated quickly after moving inland, but were part of a broader storm system that brought torrential rain, hail, and flooding to the region, contributing to at least two fatalities elsewhere in southern Spain that weekend.
