2. VJOSA OSMANI SPEAKING TO PRESS PRISTINA, KOSOVO - DEC. 28, 2025: Voting began on Sunday, Dec. 28, in Kosovo’s snap parliamentary election, with polls opening at 7 a.m. local time across the Balkan country.

Nearly 2 million eligible voters are casting ballots at 948 polling stations nationwide. A total of 1,180 candidates from 24 political groups are competing for seats in Kosovo’s 120-member Assembly. Voting is set to end at 7 p.m., with preliminary unofficial results expected around midnight.

Opinion polls suggest that the Self-Determination Movement (Vetevendosje), led by incumbent Prime Minister Albin Kurti, is expected to emerge as the leading party. Kurti’s main rivals include Lumir Abdixhiku of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Bedri Hamza of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), and Ramush Haradinaj of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK).

The snap election was called after Vetevendosje, which won the Feb. 9 general election, failed to form a government despite months of negotiations. President Vjosa Osmani dissolved parliament after two proposed governments failed to win confidence votes.

The election is seen as crucial, as Kosovo has yet to pass its budget for next year and is also preparing for a presidential election scheduled for March.
