China: New Year's Day sees surge in travel across China

【Voice_over】 China saw over 208 million cross-regional journeys on the first day of the New Year holiday—a 21% rise compared to last year. According to official figures, railway travel saw the largest jump, with more than 18 million passenger trips, an increase of over 65% year-on-year. Rail operators expanded capacity on busy routes and introduced special tourist trains, while newly opened lines and stations offered more options. Road trips also grew by over 18%, reaching 187 million journeys. Civil aviation passenger trips rose by double digits to 1.95 million.
