Various of Qi Zai eating bamboo Storyline Qi Zai, the world's sole brown-colored giant panda in captivity, emerged as a holiday favorite during the New Year break in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, drawing crowds of visitors to appreciate his snow play. At the Qinling Giant Panda Research Center on the first day of 2026, Qi Zai delighted visitors by playing enthusiastically in the snow. He rubbed his head and body against snow ground, even climbing play structures to coat himself in flakes. Covered in white, Qi Zai wandered calmly around the enclosure, occasionally rubbing against trees before shaking off the snow and settling down to enjoy his bamboo meal. Known for their preference for cooler climates, captive giant pandas are comparatively more active outdoors in winter, allowing them to better express natural instincts.
