ALEPPO, SYRIA - JAN. 8: The civilian death toll from attacks by the PKK/YPG terrorist group operating under the name of SDF in Aleppo has risen to nine since Tuesday, with 55 others wounded.

Mounir al-Mohammad, media director at Aleppo’s Health Directorate, told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that the casualties resulted from shelling by the SDF forces on residential neighborhoods in Aleppo.

Al-Ikhbariya TV reported that army units launched strikes against SDF positions used to fire into Aleppo neighborhoods. The broadcaster said the SDF is operating from within civilian homes in the Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods, using them as launch points for gunfire and shells.

It also reported that indiscriminate shelling by the SDF struck Aleppo’s Khalidiya district and Nile Street, resulting in civilian injuries, without providing specific figures.

The SDF shelled residential neighborhoods in the city for the third consecutive day on Thursday, forcing hundreds of civilians to flee.

According to SANA, the attacks struck residential areas in the city, including sniper fire that wounded civilians in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood.

On March 10, the Syrian presidency announced the signing of an agreement for the SDF’s integration into state institutions, reaffirming the country's territorial unity and rejecting any attempts at division.

Syrian authorities say that in the months since, the SDF has not shown any efforts to meet the terms of the agreement.

The Syrian government has intensified efforts to maintain security across the country since the ouster of Bashar al-Assad’s regime on Dec. 8, 2024, after 24 years in power.
