Protesters against the immigration crackdown converged in Manhattan.

Footage shows dozens of demonstrators crossing a wide intersection near Foley Square and 26 Federal Plaza on Thursday, home to federal immigration courts and Department of Homeland Security offices.

They carried slogans, including 'The people demand ICE out of our communities' and 'Deportation is a crime'.

The rally was part of nationwide protests triggered by the fatal shooting of 37-year-old mother of three Renee Nicole Good by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent during an operation in Minneapolis on Wednesday.

The incident occurred as she sat in her SUV in a snowy residential street south of downtown, reportedly witnessed by a family member.

Officials said the woman allegedly attempted to use her vehicle against law enforcement, describing the act as an assault on federal officers.

Kristi Noem, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, said: 'She then proceeded to weaponise her vehicle, and she attempted to run a law enforcement officer over.'

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has assumed control of the inquiry into the shooting.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey condemned early attempts to frame the event as self-defence.

He said: 'Having seen the video myself, I want to tell everybody directly - that is bullshit.'

Authorities confirmed the shooting unfolded in a residential area south of downtown Minneapolis, close to long-established immigrant markets.

The case comes during the Trump administration's intensified immigration enforcement, including a widespread programme of deportations targeting undocumented residents.
