White House says Trump administration fully backs ICE
SHOTLIST:
WASHINGTON, DC, US (JAN. 8, 2026) (ANADOLU - ACCESS ALL)
1. VARIOUS OF WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARY KAROLINE LEAVITT MAKING STATEMENTS (English) WASHINGTON, DC, US - JAN. 8, 2026: White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the Trump administration fully supports Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and will continue to uphold law and order in the United States, following a deadly incident in Minnesota, speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, Jan. 8.
Leavitt said the incident occurred as part of what she described as an organized left-wing movement targeting federal law enforcement officers, claiming that ICE agents are facing sharp increases in assaults, vehicle rammings, and death threats.
She stressed that ICE officers are enforcing federal law by removing criminal illegal immigrants, adding that this policy reflects the mandate given by voters who elected President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
Leavitt accused Democrats of impeding immigration enforcement operations and calling for the defunding of federal law enforcement agencies, saying such actions create dangerous conditions for officers.
She added that the administration has activated thousands of federal agents, increased the number of US attorneys in Minneapolis and deployed additional resources to address immigration enforcement and fraud investigations in Minnesota.
A woman shot dead on Wednesday by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent during an enforcement operation in the US state of Minnesota was identified as Renee Nicole Good.
The Department of Homeland Security claimed that Good, 37, attempted to hit officers with her vehicle, prompting an agent to fire in what officials described as an act of "self-defense."
Local officials disputed that account, with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey saying he reviewed video footage of the shooting and rejected claims that it was justified, calling it a reckless use of force. He demanded that federal immigration agents leave the city.
