Mumbai, India - January 20, 2026 A major accident was narrowly averted in Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, on Tuesday. A private bus carrying passengers suddenly caught fire on the Western Express Highway in the Malad area, causing a temporary disruption to traffic on the busy road. Upon receiving information about the incident, police and fire department teams rushed to the spot. The fire was brought under control after about half an hour of effort. The fire broke out in a sleeper coach bus bound for Borivali. There were 13 passengers on board at the time of the incident. As soon as the fire started, there was panic inside the bus, after which the driver stopped the bus and asked all the passengers to get off. During this time, several passengers jumped out of the windows to save their lives.
