The footage showed a rocket being fired from a vehicle positioned on the opposite side of the road at the mayor’s moving vehicle near the intersection of the national highway and the route leading to the Maguindanao del Sur Provincial Police Office headquarters.
Another camera angle captured a closer view of the moment the rocket was launched. The footage documented the attack from multiple positions near the scene.
Local media reported that despite the rocket strike hitting the mayor’s vehicle and heavy gunfire at the scene, Ampatuan was unharmed. Two members of his security detail were reported wounded in the attack.
According to police information cited by local outlets, security forces launched a pursuit operation after the incident, targeting the attackers who fled in a gray or white minivan.
The pursuit reportedly led to Barangay Meta in Datu Unsay, where the suspects exchanged fire with pursuing forces. Three suspected attackers were killed in the clash and their vehicle was recovered, the reports said.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the identities and motives behind the attack.
