Eid al-Fitr (the ‘festival of breaking the fast’) is a time for family and friends to come together – presents are given, new clothes worn and lost relatives remembered – marking the end of the month-long dawn to sunset fasting during Ramadan.

Traditionally, Eid al-Fitr begins at sunset on the night of the first sighting of the crescent moon. If the moon is not seen immediately after the 29th day of the previous lunar month, then the holiday is celebrated the following day. It is predicted that Eid al-Fitr in 2022 will start on Monday, May 2, ending on the evening of Tuesday, May 3.
