Baby rhino makes an emergency stop with a constipated look on his face

During a safari in the Kruger National Park, we came across a female white rhino and her two week old male calf. This was one of the most adorable sights we have seen in a very long time. It was very windy and the mother kept her and her calf in a drainage line below the wind for safety. The cute baby rhino, with a bird on its back, was happily playing around under the watchful eye of his mother. The calf then made his way up the bank of the drainage line when he suddenly stopped. He looked a little uncomfortable. With his little tail curled up and ears cocked, the baby rhino squatted, looking very odd and funny at the same time. It became clear that this baby rhino suddenly had to stop and deal with his constipation. It was really funny to see that constipated look on his face while squeezing with all his heart. It did not look comfortable at all for the poor little one. During the whole process his mother was right there in support. Eventually he succeeded with great relief when a tiny piece of dung finally dropped on the ground. We could not believe all the effort he went through just for that. Because his mother’s milk is so nutritious, the baby rhino’s body absorbs almost all of it in the first few weeks, leaving little to move through the digestive tract. After all of that the baby rhino happily continued playing around with his mother as if nothing happened. To see a wild infant rhino going through one of its many growing pains was a rare and priceless experience.
