Buddhist monks used a basket attached to a zipline to send food to residents trapped by floods in Thailand.

The small town in Ratchaburi province was cut off from neighbouring areas after the river overflowed following strong rainstorms.

Families were unable to reach markets to buy food because roads around the mountainous area were submerged and there was a risk of landslides following several days of heavy rain.

After learning about the struggling villagers, the kind monks at a nearby Buddhist temple shared their supplies with the locals.

They hanged a huge basket on a zipline over the river that was strong enough to carry grown me. They then filled it with food to help the villagers through the storm.

At least 70 houses were submerged under the water but rescuers had a hard time reaching them because the roads were blocked by the muddy floods.

Severe flooding had damaged parts of Thailand in the past few weeks as the county has entered the rainy season throughout the month.

Countries in Southeast Asia such as the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia and Malaysia are at the peak of their annual rainy season.

Heavy rains this month have caused floods and landslides in central Vietnam and western Cambodia, forcing tens of thousands of people from their homes.
