This was the moment a daring firefighter rappelled himself off a bridge to rescue a trio of stranded puppies who got caught up in India's flash flood in Tamil Nadu's Vellore on November 28.

Footage shows a raging river as the firefighter lowers himself down into the water, he tackles the marshland where the puppies were spotted and puts them in a rucksack before they are lifted atop the bridge.

Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the south of India were battered by Cyclone Nivar last week as it brought large amounts of rain that caused flash flooding in both regions, resulting in many residents being displaced and at least 14 fatalities.

Katpadi Fire Department's humanitarian operation to rescue puppies trapped in the floodwaters has been receiving much appreciation among the people.

After noticing few puppies were strangled in the rain near the river, the villagers have sought fire department's help to rescue them.
The fire brigade rushed to the spot and rescued the puppies who were trapped in the water by a rope from the top of the bridge.

The swift action followed by the successful rescue operation from the fire brigades have been much appreciated by the people who witnessed the event.
