Dozens of Indonesian children joined forces in Padang City today (December 6) to clean a local beach.

They later took part in a workshop on the importance of recycling and the difference between organic and inorganic waste.

"My friends and I were moved to keep teaching teenagers in the city of Padang to be able to protect the environment and be good at work," said Tia, one of the organisers.

She added that the kids "enthusiastically received" the idea of the project as local schools have been closed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The children missed the atmosphere at school with their friends," she added.

Dozens of children in Padang City learn to go into nature by cleaning the beach from the trash. The children were introduced by their older guides to the importance of environmental cleanliness and learn to know the difference between organic and non-organic waste.

After cleaning the beach from rubbish, dozens of children were directed to make collages or work by attaching used objects to drawing patterns such as flowers and fish. Besides that, the children who were under the guidance of a group called the youth counseling and information center also learned English.

The group leader Tia said "my friends and I were moved to keep teaching teenagers in the city of Padang to be able to protect the environment, be good at work and be good at speaking English" .

Tia added "because formal school was not during Covid-19, our way was very enthusiastically received by the children who missed the atmosphere at school with their friends".
