Today saw the end of an era, as cooling towers were demolished at one of Yorkshires remaining power stations.
The 4 cooling towers located at Eggborough Power Station in North Yorkshire were brought down by controlled explosives this morning (Sunday 1st August) The video was filmed from 1 mile away which is why the towers fall before you hear the explosion.
The power station which closed back in September 2018 was capable of producing 1960 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 2 million homes equivalent to a city the size of Leeds or Sheffield.
The plant began producing power in 1967 using nearby coal reserves, but plans are now underway to replace the power station with a modern gas powered station capable of producing 2500 megawatts
