Today saw the remaining cooling towers demolished at a Yorkshire Power Station. Footage filmed today 10th October at Eggborough Power Station shows the 4 remaining towers being demolished by controlled explosives. A siren was sounded to begin the process, which was then followed by a warning shot and then 30 seconds later the towers were brought crashing to the ground in a cloud of dust and rubble. Roads in the nearby area were closed from 6am until after the blast at 9am. It comes after an earlier demolition of 4 other cooling towers at the power plant in North Yorkshire which were also brought down by explosives back on August 1st. Eggborough Power Station started producing electricity in 1967 and has since been a landmark for over 50 years. At it's capacitiy, the plant produced 1960 megawatts of electricity that powered around 2 million homes, or a city the size of Leeds or Sheffield. The coal fired station closed back in September 2018 with plans to build a newer gas powered station with a capacity to produce 2500 megawatts of electricity.
