Unusual CCTV footage has recently emerged from China of a burglar breaking into the room behind ATM machines by drilling through the wall.

In the footage, captured on a security camera in a bank in Shanghai late last year, the man can be seen climbing into the room through the drilled hole - searching for money before fleeing as alarms sound.

According to local reports, the man said he'd withdrawn cash from the machine a day before and thought he could easily find more behind it. He then reportedly spent two hours drilling before the aborted raid.

The prosecution is said to be ongoing.
