Footage shows an enormous 100ft-long blanket of ghoulish caterpillar webs that look like “something from a horror film”.

The bizarre images were captured by nature photographer Mick Hickman, 48, on a rural road near Bawtry, South Yorks., on Wednesday (June 2).

They show an intricate network of thick, white webs clinging to the hedge, which is populated with thousands upon thousands of caterpillars. It’s thought the pint-sized insects, which are ermine moth caterpillars, formed the huge communal web for protection.

Mick said: “I was driving down the road and this hedgerow caught my eye so I got out to take a closer look. It was an absolutely incredible sight, I thought ‘I’ve got to get a picture of that’. When you come across something like that it’s amazing, It makes what I do worthwhile. It looks like something from a horror movie like Dracula.”
