CCTV captured the moment duo on a motorbike stopped at the Lambah post, Jalan Bukittinggi Agam, West Sumatra province, and steal a few gadgets before driving off together on Tuesday (July 13).

They entered the empty post without the guard when they saw a laptop and tablet on the table. One stepped outside to get the motorbike ready as the other one stayed behind to grab what he can. He was about to cancel his intention to steal when he saw that CCTV pointing at him.

Farhan, a postal service delivery officer, said the theft occurred when his father left the post to pick up lunch.

"My father saw the CCTV monitor inside the house [when] someone had entered the post, but his behavior was suspicious as it wasn't like someone who would deliver goods," Farhan said.

"Then my father went to the post, but the person left instead. My father, who was suspicious when he saw a Dell laptop and a Samsung Tab 8.4 tablet was no longer on the table, immediately chased the thief," said Farhan, adding that the loss due to this incident was around 20 million rupiah (1,030 GBP).

Gadget theft at postal delivery services in Indonesia occurs when the post is left by the guard to get lunch to the kitchen.

The suspect managed to escape despite being nearly hit by a car. A passing motorist who notices the theft is trying to catch up, but the thief escapes.

The police who received the report already knew the characteristics of the thief who was a fugitive.
