This clip shows villagers' desperation following the massive landslide that hit the town of Talai, in the district of Raigad, Maharashtra, India, on Thursday evening (July 22).

Footage filmed yesterday (July 24) shows the family members of the victims hugging and crying in front of mud, debris, and uprooted trees.

The collapse left at least 37 dead and thousands homeless.

Bridges, roads, and 32 houses were completely buried. Villagers fear that 90 bodies could be found under the rubbles.

Rescue teams, helicopters, and squads have been deployed in the area, but heavy rains hampered rescue efforts.

A major Landslide happened at Talai in Mahad taluka due to heavy rains in Raigad district. At least 37 people have been killed in the landslide. More than 50 people are feared trapped from that region. The death toll from the incident at Talai is feared to rise. About 32 houses were buried under the landslide at Talai. Relief and rescue operations were launched at the spot to rescue the missing.

The rescue operation in Mahad has been started with the help of rescue squads and helicopters. The administration has appealed to the rescue team in the helicopter to make an effort to see the trapped people if they go on the roof or height of the house. Bridges and roads have been washed away in some places in the hilly areas of Mahad taluka and the rescue teams should contact the citizens and move them to safer places.

Heavy rains prevented aid from reaching the site. Meanwhile, local villagers have started the rescue operation and 32 bodies have been recovered from the buried houses. Villagers fear that 80 to 90 bodies are still buried under the pile.The landslide took place at Talai on Thursday evening, but floodwaters and mudslides on the way hampered rescue efforts at night.
