March 17 saw the end of an era, as the three remaining Cooling Towers at Ferrybridge Power Station were reduced to rubble in a matter of seconds in West Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

The Towers were brought down by controlled explosives at 7:45 p.m. by demolition contractor Keltbray.

The landmark in Ferrybridge could be seen for up to 30 miles away.

This is the fourth demolition at the power plant, which began in July 2019 when the first cooling tower came crashing down. The next stage saw four more cooling towers disappear off the landscape back in October 2019 and then a spectacular show was put on by the demolition team when two chimneys and a boiler house was demolished at the same time in August 2021. The station was built in the 1960s and decommissioning started in March 2016.
