Cape Malay and slave heritage celebrated at the Castle of Good Hope

An exhibition to celebrate Cape Malay heritage was held at the Castle of Good Hope. The British Empire brought slaves from the East to be used as cheap labour in the Cape of Good Hope. Many of the descendants of the those slaves still reside in Bo-Kaap which was formerly known as the slave quarter.

Igshaan Higgins, director of the Cape Muslim and Slave Heritage Museum, said the museum showcases the heritage and history of the slaves and provides an unedited history of South Africa in his opinion.
