Dozens were left injured after a minibus full of passengers flipped over on a road in Kolkata, West Bengal.

Footage from January 30 shows the vehicle suddenly veering towards the side of the road before tipping over.

A couple of passengers that were clinging to the minibus' door were squashed by the vehicle as they were thrown out onto the road.

According to reports, the vehicle's front tyre burst causing the minibus to swerve.

Following the accident, at least 27 were taken to hospital with injuries.

At least 27 people sustained injuries after a minibus carrying them turned turtle in eastern India's West Bengal on January 30.

The incident took place on SN Banerjee Road, located in Kolkata.

Visuals feature the moderately busy road. Within moments, a minibus enters the scene and slowly begins to veer towards the sidelines. Following this, the vehicle completely loses balance and flips onto its side, crushing the few passengers who tried to escape the mishap.

The bus was heading to Howrah for an engagement party when the incident unfolded. Moreover, it was carrying around 40 people at the time.

According to reports, the front left tyre burst causing the bus to fall on its left side, and the vehicle had at least 203 traffic rule violation cases pending against it.

Following the accident, the injured, including minors, were taken to SSKM Hospital in south-central Kolkata. Twelve of them were admitted, while the rest were discharged after treatment.

The Fatal Squad of traffic police and New Market cops arrested the bus driver, identified as Sarfaraz Khan (27), a few hours after he fled the accident site at Dorina Crossing.
