Footage shows the abandoned 49-storey 'Ghost Tower' exuding eerie vibes in the Thai capital Bangkok.

Sathorn Unique Tower was planned to become a luxury condominium with 600 units but its construction had to stop in 1997 when it was only 80 per cent complete due to the Asian financial crisis, which raised fears of a worldwide economic meltdown.

The abandoned skyscraper earned its nickname 'Ghost Tower' amid claims a curse on the former graveyard the construction was built on had caused the failed business project. Others claimed the building was doomed because it cast a shadow over the nearby Buddhist temple Wat Yan Nawa.

Suspicions were further fuelled when a Swedish tourist's body was found hanged on the 43rd floor of the building in 2014.

Despite being off-limits, locals and foreign adventure seekers have continued to enter the curious property over the years with some of them leaving behind traces of vandalism that are visible from the outside.

Owners of the building have prosecuted trespassers amid a surge in backpackers and urban explorers climbing to the top.

There are currently no reported plans to complete the building or tear it down as both options are believed to cost too much.
