This is the scary moment a tree was uprooted and collapsed onto the road during a storm in Thailand.

The 100-year-old Banyan tree was battered by extreme weather that struck Bang Klam district, Songkhla province on May 29.

The soil where it stood loosened due to the water while strong winds uprooted the tree from its wide canopy.

Footage shows the tree slowly collapsing while terrified drivers swerved to avoid the debris. Electricity cables were also seen shaking from the force of the fall.

Resident Son Bupphachon who lives on the opposite side of the road said: ‘It’s so sad that the old tree was gone, but we were relieved that no driver or house had been affected.’

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November.

Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain, and flash floods.

Many of the under-developed nations struggle to cope with the heavy rain due to under-investment infrastructure.
