This is the heartwarming moment kind passers-by rescued a dog abandoned in the pouring rain in the Philippines.

Jarcel Golez and her brother were taking shelter from the sudden storm when they spotted the pooch getting drenched on the pavement in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental province on July 16.

The poor animal had been chained by its owner to the sidewalk before being left alone to endure the tropical summer downpour.

Jarcel said: 'My brother couldn't stand seeing the dog like that, so he went to free it. We gave it some food and led it to an area where it wouldn't get wet and freeze.

'It was trembling and looked starved so we gave it some food. There were wounds on its neck because of the chain.'

She added it was lucky there were no locks on the chain, allowing them to set the dog free.
