A stray dog stuck under a mosquito-ridden septic tank for three days was rescued in Thailand.

The pooch wandered into the empty patch of land and slipped down the uncovered hole filled with sludge in Pathum Thani province on November 28.

However, the area was isolated and the three-year-old dog was only discovered three days later on December 1.

When rescuers arrived, they found the creature covered in neck-deep human waste as dozens of insects flew around the narrow space.

Footage shows the trapped dog at the bottom of the hole with a ladder in front of him. Officers then used a rope to pull him out and free him.

One of the rescuers said: ‘There used to be a restaurant that fell out of business. Some of the structures were left as is.

‘The dog might have been looking for food when it fell onto the unfinished structures.'

The villager who called the rescuers for help said he had seen the dog three days before the operation. He said he left a ladder hoping that the creature would climb out of his own.

He said: ‘I left the ladder thinking he would leave on his own. I did not dare carry him out because he might bite me but when I passed by the area again he was still there.'

The scared and starving dog ran away after being freed from the hole. He would be taken to the animal shelter by local officials.
