An escaped buffalo rampaged through a home and gored four siblings in Thailand.

The beast went berserk in its enclosure in Uthai Thani province at 11 AM on March 16, as the four villagers struggled to control.

However, the crazed farm animal overpowered them, leaving three severely injured and one with minor cuts and abrasions.

Teeraphong Tiemchan, 57, was impaled in the stomach 'causing his intestines to protrude'. Prayad Tiemchan, 60, was gored in the neck and Wanchai Tiemchan was stabbed in the arms and legs.

Their brother Chawiang, 65, escaped relatively unscathed with minor wounds, but was taken to the Thap Than Hospital to ensure he had no internal injuries.

Neighbour Chakkrit Saowapat, 20, said he went outside to check after hearing a commotion, before finding the family battling the six-year-old buffalo Chao Nhok.

Thap Than police and livestock officials later arrived at the farm to subdue the rampaging buffalo. They shot it with a tranquiliser, but the stubborn animal only calmed down after 20 minutes.

When the bull was weak enough, they tied it to a tree using a rope around its neck.

Sa-ard Charnkitkan, who works at the district's livestock office, said: 'Chao Nhok had been living with male buffaloes of similar age. They have a natural tendency to exert dominance over other males to establish themselves as leader of the herd. The buffalo might have been further angered when its owners tried to stop it from attacking the other buffaloes.'

Earlier this month a raging buffalo also gored its handler at a show in Udon Thani province. While another beast escaped its owner and tore through a Buddhist temple in Surat Thani province during a funeral on March 7.
