This is the dramatic moment an escaped buffalo gored a villager who tried to bring it under control.

The frenetic farmyard creature burst out of its enclosure and attacked villagers on the outskirts of Bangalore.

A resident who tried to control the raging animal was rammed and thrown 6ft in the air.

The man appeared to evade the animal's powerful attacks before limping away from the scene, leaving bystanders in shock.

'See, the hero,' said one neighbour in a video of the incident.

Another is heard shouting 'hey, hero, run'.

Wildlife officers from the local forest team arrived and, after hours of diligent effort, they were able to catch the buffalo.

Later, the man was taken to a hospital for treatment where he recovered and was released.

Meanwhile, in a recent wild gaur attack on Friday, April 5 a plantation worker identified as Arun of Valparai town in Tamil Nadu, was killed.

Around eight in the morning, a gaur that was wandering close to the tea plants attacked Arun. Despite being taken to the government hospital in Valparai, he passed away from his wounds.
