This is a two-month-old baby tapir found by a resident of Gunung Melintang Village, Baserah District, Kuantan Singingi Regency, Riau.

The animal named Latin Tapirus Indicus was left by its mother because she could not get her child out of the hole.

The baby tapir was then rescued by a resident named Sitompul who worked as a palm oil farmer. Sitompul also felt pity and brought the protected animal to his house.

Knowing that the tapir is an endangered protected animal, Sitompul took the initiative to contact the Riau Natural Resources Conservation Center. Furthermore, this poor baby tapir was brought to Pekanbaru for treatment.

The results of the examination, this baby tapir is female and two months old.

According to Danang Estu Subagio, a veterinarian from the Riau Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the condition of the baby tapirs is in a state of stress due to being abandoned by its mother and the long journey from the location of discovery to the place of care in Pekanbaru.

This baby tapir will first undergo rehabilitation for a health check. This baby tapir will be released into the wild after the age appropriate to return to the wild.
