A video has emerged showing the moment an elderly man was burgled in for the third time.

CCTV footage from October 2020 shows the criminal entering Mr Birch's home located in the Harehills area of Leeds, UK.

The elderly man's stepson Paul, who provided the video, told Newsflare that the carers that put his stepdad to sleep the night before did not lock the front door.

Another camera captures the moment the masked burglar simply opened the unlocked front door and walked into the home.

Chilling footage shows the burglar standing in the room looking at the sleeping pensioner assessing what to do next.

As the elderly man slowly wakes up, he turns to the thief and asks: "What are you supposed to be doing?"

Unfazed, the criminal continues to rummage through several cupboards before making off with a wallet.

The video ends with the burglar casually strolling out of the front door and walking down the road.

Mr Birch's stepson said: "Police investigated but there wasn't any forensics as the burglar was gloved and masked up, unlike the previous burglaries.

"I asked them to review CCTV from nearby shops just in case he passed or went into their shop without a mask but he just disappeared."

The video's provider also informed Newsflare that his dad has since passed away from cancer.

Mr Birch had served in the military as part of the British Army's Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers in 1950.
