Locals in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, teamed up with firefighters to rescue a cow from an 8-foot-deep pit.

Footage from June 23 shows the residents and officials using ropes to haul the stranded animal out of the pit.

Firefighters advised the landlord to not dig pits nearby roads and ensured the hole was covered.

A cow was returning to its shed after grazing and unfortunately fell into the 8 feet deep pit that was dug to lay the foundation for a building. A passerby heard the cries of the cow and rushed to the pit and saw a cow inside the pit. Then he informed the fire and rescue services. They rushed to the spot and climbed down inside the pit. They tied ropes on the two sides of the cow and they airlifted the cow. When the cow reached the ground surface its jumped with joy and rushed to its owner. Later the nearby people and the fire men advised the landlord not to dig pits in the roads nearby if being dug, then asked to ensure that it is covered when work is not being carried there.
