A man risked his own life to save a drowning woman from a river in eastern China.

The heroic video was filmed in the city of Lishui in Zhejiang Province on July 2.

A woman was unexpectedly swept into the dark undercurrent of the drainage outlet and she was being carried further away by the rushing river.

Witnessing this scene, a 52-year-old man named Cai Zhizhen decisively jumped into the water and swam towards the woman. He was knocked down by the strong current several times before finally managing to reach her.

Due to the woman's fright, she became completely weak and unable to move. Finally, with the combined efforts of five or six people on the shore, they managed to safely bring her onto land.

After reaching the shore, Cai discovered that his lower leg was scraped and bleeding, but he said that the most important thing was that the woman was safe.

"I didn't think much about it. When I saw someone drowning, my first thought was to rescue them as quickly as possible. It was indeed dangerous at the time, but I bravely jumped into the water to rescue her," said Cai.

On the morning of July 3, the rescued woman visited Cai's home to express her gratitude and brought him a gift. However, Cai humbly declined the gesture, stating that they were fellow villagers and there was no need for formalities.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
