Three students rescued an elderly fisherman from drowning in a river in northern China.

Video filmed in the city of Harbin in Heilongjiang Province on April 4, shows an elderly man getting trapped in a river while four people holding each other to attempt to save him.

According to reports, three students named Hu Haojie, Yao Yecheng, and Huang Shouxiao went to participate in a postgraduate entrance examination interview at Northeast Agricultural University.

After the interview, they planned to go to the Songhua River to take pictures and enjoy the scenery. Unexpectedly, they spotted an elderly man fishing by the river who accidentally fell into the water. In a critical moment, they rushed to the rescue together.

Hu found a pine stick on a nearby sightseeing boat, and the lightest-weighted student Yao stood in front and handed one end of the stick to the elderly man. Meanwhile, with the other hand, Yao pulled Hu out and the two students and another passerby pulled each other from behind.

Finally, with the concerted efforts of several young people, they managed to rescue the elderly man.

"The water was too cold and the elderly man was shivering all over after being rescued, but he still bowed deeply to us," said Hu Haojie. "Some people said that the old man should invite us to dinner to show his gratitude, but we felt that as long as he was safe, that was enough."

After making sure that the elderly man was alright, the three students left the scene.
