A hiker rescued a donkey trapped in a wire fence in northwestern China.

Video filmed in Golmud in Qinghai Province on August 26 shows a donkey's neck getting trapped in a wire fence and being unable to move.

A hiker spotted the incident when walking past the area. He then freed the wild donkey and allowed it to return back to nature.

The filmer, Nichi Chairang, a local mountaineering guide mentioned that he and his friend, Zaxi Dawang, were on their way back from a mountaineering expedition at Mount Yuzhu and were driving on National Highway 109 when they stumbled upon this scene.

By the time they noticed the donkey, it was visibly exhausted and struggling for breath.

In his eyes, their heroic act was merely a small gesture of goodwill. "We regard all animals in this area as friends," he said, stressing that what they did was nothing out of the ordinary but something any compassionate individual ought to do.

The video was provided by Nichi Chairang.
