A crane collapsed killing one person and injuring two others at a university in Bangkok, Thailand.

The crane was being used to pour cement on the third-floor balcony of the Srinakharinwirot University when the sling snapped, sending the heavy equipment toppling onto workers below on September 10.

The heavy object crushed engineer Thitipol Rattana-arpa, 38, and wounded two Burmese builders.

Thong Lor District police officers and medics rushed to the university, where they found Thitipol buried under the debris. They tried to administer first aid, but his injuries were too severe, and he was declared dead at the scene.

The Burmese workers, whose names were not disclosed, were reported to have suffered minor injuries and were taken to the Police General Hospital for treatment.

Police Captain Songtham Worapan of the Thong Lor Police Station said officers were now searching for the crane operator, who had fled the accident before police could arrive.

He said: 'The police will contact the contractor and locate the crane operator for questioning. We are also awaiting the results of the forensic investigation to determine the cause of the accident before we file the appropriate charges.'

In February, a 30-year-old Cambodian worker was killed when a crane collapsed at a construction site in the Chatuchak area of Bangkok.
