A metro staff's heroic dash to save a woman on the brink of an escalator fall in southern China.

The CCTV footage was filmed in Chongqing on October 10.

A female passenger, while exiting the station on an escalator, nearly stumbled. A vigilant duty station manager of the metro noticed the situation and rushed to support the passenger, preventing her from getting hurt.

Recalling the event, the station manager, Chen Chunjian, stated that it happened around 4:00 pm when he was on his station rounds near the escalators at the No. 3 entrance of Guanyinqiao Station, he observed a female passenger wearing a blue long skirt who was struggling to maintain her balance on the escalator, tilting backward. In a critical moment, he instinctively darted forward and steadied the passenger, preventing any injuries.

"At that time, there wasn't much time to think. I just reacted on instinct and hoped she wouldn't fall and get hurt," Chen Chunjian reminisced. The female passenger, still shaken from the incident, expressed her gratitude to him afterward, stating that the consequences could have been much worse without his assistance.

Chen Chunjian, a 33-year-old who belongs to the post-1990s generation, has been serving in frontline customer service roles in the metro system for 12 years. He joined the Guanyinqiao Station in February this year. He believes that ensuring passenger safety is the most crucial aspect of his job. "When passengers express their gratitude, it's gratifying for me, but this is primarily my duty, something I'm expected to do," he remarked.
