Bystanders guarded hundreds of scattered Chinese notes on a road until police arrive in northern China.

The video was filmed in Handan City in Hebei Province on October 11.

Stretching almost three metres, these notes formed a blanket of cash right by the pedestrian walkway.

The pedestrians who happened upon it didn't take advantage of the situation. Instead of pocketing the money while no one was looking, they decided to stand guard over the sprawling cash and promptly reported it to the police. They patiently waited by the money's side until officers arrived to secure the scene.

Mr Duan, one of the eyewitnesses, described the astonishing situation, "By my estimate, there must be around 10,000 yuan (£1,130) to 20,000 yuan (£2,300). It felt like a scene straight out of a movie. We decided to stand by it, ensuring the wind didn't carry away the notes before the police could get here."

After sharing details with the patrolling officers and ensuring the money was safely in the hands of authorities, Duan and other bystanders left the scene.

Local police responded to the incident, revealing they have since located the owner of the lost money.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
