A ferocious tornado tore through a town in southern China, resulting in five fatalities and 33 injuries.

Dramatic video filmed in Guangzhou City in Guangdong Province on April 27, shows a large twister swirling debris into the air and huge fireballs bursting from cables.

The Guangdong Meteorological Bureau assessed the tornado as a severe level 3 twister, cutting a path approximately 1.7 kilometres long and 280 metres wide. The devastating event lasted just about four minutes but had a broad impact radius of about one kilometre.

In the aftermath, local authorities swiftly formed six emergency groups, including rescue, repair, and security teams, to coordinate the response efforts. Emergency services, including medical, police, fire, and construction personnel, were mobilised extensively to conduct thorough search and rescue operations.

Primary search and rescue efforts concluded successfully. The disaster caused significant damage, affecting 141 industrial buildings while fortunately sparing residential homes from destruction.

The injured were quickly transported to hospitals for urgent care. Moving forward, the Baiyun District is committed to ensuring the well-being of the affected communities and facilitating the recovery process.
