Knife Massages in Taiwan without English subtitle

Buy video

Taiwan is as famous for massages as it is for its delicious food. But did you know that there is a massage style that uses knives?
Hsiao Mei Fang, the owner of Ancient Art Of Knife Therapy Education Center, located in Taipei, Taiwan, has been performing massages with knives for 13 years. First she uses a stick to loosen up the blood vessels and improve the circulation of the client, then she moves on to a massage using knives. In the midst of the massage the masseuse makes something like a burping sound, which they explain is them spitting out the bad energy they draw from the client. The cost depends on the time and masseuse, but you can get an hour starting from 1,200 Taiwan dollars.

After getting our footage and doing the interview our team got massages, and the knives were much heavier than we imagined, so that the impact of each blow could be felt throughout our bodies. Our fear of the knives melted away quickly and we even found ourselves drifting off to sleep to the pleasant rhythm of the knives. (April 16th, 2017.)
