An earthquake measuring 6.5 has hit southern China, killing at least five and injuring many more.

Footage filmed in Jiuzhaigou County, Sichuan Province on August 8, showed giant chandeliers shaking on the ceiling of a building as the quake struck.

Another clip showed people running for safety in the streets with debris on the ground.

The China Earthquake Networks Centre recorded the earthquake at magnitude 7.0 and said it struck at a depth of 20 kilometres (12 miles).

The earthquake hit at 9:20 p.m. (1320 GMT) near the Jiuzhaigou national park, according to local media.
