Articulated vehicles in Nigeria are referred to as, “King of the road,” because all other vehicles that get involved in a collision with them, more often than not, get badly mangled. As at today there are a good number of articulated vehicles occupying the road from the entrance of the sea- port, in Apapa area of Lagos. They are queuing either to take delivery of goods, imported through the ports, or to load petroleum products from tank farms, for delivery to sales points; all over the country.
The queue of vehicles stretches from the entrance of the port, through the city roads, and could be up to 11km(6.8 miles) long. The vehicles are parked and double parked on major thoroughfares, thus denying other motorists the use of the road. This can go on for a week and longer. Sadly, the Federal, State and local authorities, and the Police, have been unable to eject the offenders.
