Footage of a plane experiencing severe turbulence during a first attempt to land in Seattle amid heavy winds.

The video, captured on a Skywest flight from Portland to Seattle on November 13, shows passengers grabbing on to armrests and the backs of seats as turbulence rattles the plane.

According to reports, it took three times for the plane to land in the storm.

''It was bad, bad," the filmer later wrote online.

"We were up and down and sideways."

''We successfully landed on the third attempt at which the cabin erupted in claps and cheers,'' she continued.

''Once on the ground, the strong winds continued to hit the plane and we still felt the effects inside the cabin.''

''At the gate, the plane-side baggage service had to be pushed inside the covered walkway to the terminal as the grounds workers could not control the cart in the winds.''

This video was shot during the first of 2 attempted landings on an Alaska Air (operated by Skywest) CRJ200 jet. The plane departed Portland, OR around 2 PM Pacific Time in the storm, and was due to land at SeaTac Airport in Seattle, Washington around 2:30 PM pacific Time. Due to the wind storm, the pilot warned the passengers that turbulence was expected and the flight attendant would remain seated for the duration of the flight.

Departure on time from Portland, the flight was turbulent, but nothing too severe. However, once the plane started its descent into Seattle, things quickly escalated.

I fly often and have experienced turbulence on many occasions. I thought I would records the landing in this windstorm to show my friends what I deal with at times. But I had no idea the landing would end up being aborted due to the high winds, and wind shear (per pilot after we successfully landed).

It's not unusual, in my experience as a frequent flyer of 14 years, to have the cabin become silent during turbulence. This time, even during the aborted landing and the second aborted attempt (even though we weren't as close to the ground when the pilot started climbing again), was no different.
